Her mother, Irina, was the first child of the composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. Irina married Prince Peter Volkonsky in Dresden, Germany on 24 September 1924. Her married name became Wolkonsky. Peter died on 12 August 1925 at age 28 in Paris, France. Thus, he died before the birth of their one daughter (the grandaughter of the composer), Princess Sofiya (Sophia) Petrovna (Pierre) Wolkonsky, born 4 September 1925.
Princess Sophia married twice, to Dallas Morse Coors (b. 26 October 1917) and Allison Temple Wanamaker, Jr. (b. 16 July 1918, d. 17 November 2004). They had three children: Peter Wanamaker, Natalie Wanamaker Javier, and Allison Wanamaker McDonald.
