GEORGE M. WITWER, Special to the New York Times, May 29, 1942:
"SOUTH BEND, Ind., May 28 -- George M. Witwer, nephew of the five Studebaker brothers who founded the wagon business that became the Studebaker Corporation, died today in a hospital here. He was 82 years old. Mr. Witwer had been associated in the Studebaker business from 1880 to 1935, when he resigned to take charge of family affairs. For many years he was a director in two banks here. He leaves a widow and a son."

"G. M. Witwer Passes Away At Age of 82
George M. Witwer, 1031 East Jefferson boulevard, passed away at 6:22 o'clock this morning in Epworth hospital which he entered May 14, ill with complications.

Mr. Witwer was born Nov. 1, 1859 in Ashland, O. His father, Rev. George Witwer was a Dunkard minister. His mother was a sister of the five Studebaker brothers who founded the Studebaker Bros. Manufacturing company, now the Studebaker corporation. The Witwer home in an early day was at Sample street and Prairie avenue. The site is now covered by one of the Studebaker corporation buildings.

Mr. Witwer came to South Bend when he was very young and had resided in the city since. After receiving his education, he became connected in 1880 with the Studebaker Bros. Manufacturing company and was also private secretary to his uncle, J. M. Studebaker, sr. He held the latter position until Mr. Studebaker's death March 16, 1917. He then served Mr. Studebaker's family for some time in an advisory capacity. His connection with the Studebaker organization continued until 1935 when he resigned and devoted his time to the Studebaker family business and his personal affairs. For many years he was a director of the St. Joseph Loan & Trust company and a trustee of the St. Joseph County Savings bank, both no longer in existence.

Mr. Witwer was from a large family, J. Frank Witwer, of Kansas City, Mo., being the only one living. Mr. Witwer was a member of the Presbyterian church. Politically he was a republican and in his younger years was very active in politics and his advice was sought by party men. He was married to Miss Mary E. Violette, of Elkhart county, June 24, 1885, who with one son, Mohler S. Witwer, survives.

The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the residence and burial will be in Riverview cemetery. Both services will be conducted by Rev. Charles Tupper Baillie, D.D., pastor of the First Presbyterian church."

Rose, Floyd H. Beagles, Harold W. Bolenbaugh and Clifford J. Meyer. Rev. Charles tupper Baillie D. D., pastor of First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery. Friends may call in the residence today and until the funeral."
