Rose and Edwin were married June 18, 1889, by N. M. Middleton in a lavish wedding described in the South Bend Tribune of June 22, 1889.

In part the description reads: "Mr. Edwin C. Witwer, .....at the Studebaker carriage works, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Witwer, and Miss Rose Gertrude Stover, daughter of Mrs. Susan [sic] J. Stover, were united in matrimony last night at the home of the bride in Myler, just south of the city on the Michigan Road, in the presence of a large company, composed mostly of relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Witwer received the hearty congratulations of their friends. A wedding repast of superb quality and beautiful proportions served by the popular caterer, Louis Nickel, and his force of gentlemanly waiters, followed, and the remainder of the night until a very late hour was given up to social festivities of an enjoyable character. A great variety of elegant and useful presents was displayed and admired by the guests.

Both the bride and groom are natives of this county and were brought up in the city. They are most worthy young people, with hosts of friends, and are connected with some of the oldest and most prominent families in the community, including the Studebakers, Stovers, Stulls, Witwers, etc. The bride's mother is a sister of Mrs. J. M. Studebaker, and the groom's mother a sister of Mr. J. M. Studebaker. Although the guests numbered about 175 nearly all were related or connected by marriage ties."
