Nancy Witt Caldwell, 98, of Lexington VA, died the 8th of July 2009.

She was born on June 7, 1911 in Lynchburg VA, the daughter of the late David Edward and Belle Almond Witt.

She was educated at Lynchburg schools, Harcum Junior College, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

Mrs. Caldwell was an artist, specializing in pastel portraits, mainly of children.

She was a founding member of the Spinster's Club in Lynchburg, a member of the Junior League of Lynchburg, and a member of the DAR in Lexington.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling in her later years.

Mrs. Caldwell was an active member of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Lexington and a former member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church in McLean, VA.

In 1943, she married Thomas Dornin Caldwell, of Lynchburg, who predeceased her in 1988.

She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Louis Keen, of Atlanta, GA. She is survived by her daughter Evelyn Caldwell of Lexington, VA; her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Stephen McGuire of McLean, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be held at noon July 18th at Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg, VA. A memorial service will be held at noon August 22nd at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Lexington, Virginia with the Rev. Canon Wallace C. Shields officiating. There will be a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. Paul's Anglican Church, P. O. Box 1273, Lexington, VA 24450 or the Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St. Lexington, VA 24450.
