Milvia "Mimi" Salser Witt was born October 30, 1920 in Apple Springs, Texas, one of two children born to the late "Mama" Susie and Jim Bob Salser. After walking with the Lord for most of her life, she suddenly and mercifully departed to rest in His arms on June 5, 2007. Surrounded by her family, her final hours were spent anxiously awaiting the birth of a special little cousin, Dilyn Baird, son of Michael and Shandi Baird of Apple Springs. Mimi's greatest joy was praying for and being with her family. She was always present with her love and support for every birth, wedding, birthday, graduation and special event for all of her 3 children, 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
For years, she proudly served on the Board of Directors of Gloria Russell Children's Ministries and extensively served in the Altrusa Club of Lufkin as President and in various other offices. Ms. Witt retired from Calvary Baptist Church where she served as Financial Secretary for 25 years. Previously, she worked as a bookkeeper for W.A. Dubose Ford Tractor. For the past 4 years, Ms. Witt attended Keltys First Baptist Church and loved being a member of the women's JOY Sunday School Class. Prior to that, she was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church of Lufkin for over 35 years.
Surviving family members include daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Clifford Russell of Colmesneil; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and James H. Smith of Apple Springs; son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Leah Witt of Apple Springs; grandchildren, Susan and Sidney Waldron of Missouri City, Nancy and Terry Brown of Arkansas, David Russell of Lufkin, Kelli and Keith Barnes of Colmesneil, Kevin and Tiana Smith of Lufkin, Sharon and Andy Delgado of Nacogdoches, Shandi and Woody Porterfield of Diboll, Terry Witt of Magnolia; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a special "sister-like" first cousin and her husband, LaNell and Henry Steel of Apple Springs and their very loving family. Ms. Witt was preceded in death by her mother, father and brother, Eulen Salser.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Smith, David Russell, Terry Witt, Keith Barnes, Sidney Waldron, Andy Delgado, Roy Lynn Madden and Danny Steel.
