Mrs James Monroe Witt (nee California A Denton) departed life at her home in Center Point, Thursday, Febuary 2, 1926 at 1:30 pm. The death of this venerable and beloved pioneer citizen marks the passing of the oldest resident of this county. At the time of her coming here only three other families resided in the community. For many years these early settlers had to go to San Antonio for their mail and supplies. They were frontier people in the fullest degree.
Mrs Witt was born in Warren County, Kentucky, May 28, 1849. At the age of three years she came with her parents to Texas and located on Saledo Creek near what was then the little village of San Antonio. One year later they moved to Kerr County, and located near Center Point.
Mrs Witt lived a beautiful christian life. At the age of 17, whe was converted and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church.
She married James Monroe Witt, August 22, 1867 and the union was blessed with six children, one of whom died in infancy.
The funeral will be held today at the Center Point Cemetery at 10:30 am.
Survivors are her faithful husband; children W.T. Witt of Clifton, Arizona; J.D. Witt, Center Point; J.T. Witt of Kingman, Arizona; Fred Witt, Morgan Hill, Tennessee, and Mrs Maud Surber, Bandera, Texas. She also leaves twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
