VerLue Lorraine (Witmer) Bless, 91, formerly of Campbelltown, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Colonial Park Care Center, Harrisburg. She was born Saturday, February 1, 1919 in Derry Township, Dauphin Co., to the late Samuel and Sarah (Barley) Witmer. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence H. "Nook" Bless who died in 1989.
After graduating from high school, VerLue went on to beauty school and was a practicing beautician, both locally and in Oklahoma where she and husband resided for many years. She was a Member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Campbelltown, a Charter Member of the VFW Post 6417 Ladies Auxiliary, Palmyra and a Member of the Daughters of the Nile, Oklahoma City, OK.
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia L. Ream of Hershey; grandson, Cody Broaddus and wife Sharon, and their daughter Jessica, of Cleona; granddaughter, Tiffany Broaddus of Feasterville, PA; brothers, Elvin W. Witmer of Mechanicsburg, Glenn S. Witmer and wife Bonnie, of Palmyra; sisters, Mildred Rearick, of Annville, Darlene wife of Eugene Murray, of Mechanicsburg; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Houser of Elizabethtown. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by brothers, Ross, Bruce, and Wayne Witmer, and twin sisters, Mabel and Myra Witmer.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078, with Pastor J. Thomas Truitt officiating. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park, Annville. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice, 4th and Walnut Streets, Lebanon, PA 17042.
