Pearl A. Barrick, RN, age 90, of Mechanicsburg (Wertzville), passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Born January 18, 1924 at home in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Esther (Waggoner) Witmer.
Pearl worked as a registered nurse and was the winner of the Florence Nightingale Award in 1945. Following her work at professional and educational facilities, she moved on to work for the Department of Health and Welfare inspecting nursing homes, a position from which she eventually retired. Throughout her career, Pearl was well liked and respected by all those she dealt with. Pearl also worked at Messiah Village following retirement. Pearl was a longtime member of Young's United Methodist Church where she served for many years as the church pianist. She was also known to travel to various churches with her sisters Grace and Helen where they would perform as a vocal trio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Barrick and by her sisters, Leona Judy and Helen Felty. Surviving are her sons, Gary Barrick and Michael Barrick; her sisters, Grace Durnin and husband John of Carlisle, and Joann Eslinger and husband Joe of Mechanicsburg; her brothers, Rev. John Witmer and wife Betty of Ft. Loudon and Verle Witmer of Roanoke, VA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
