John Charles Wisner Jr., 73, of Star City died Saturday, December 13, 2003, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born Jan. 15, 1930, in Dermott to the late John Charles Sr. and Helen Stone Wisner, he was a 1950 graduate of Dermott High School and attended Ouachita Baptist University. He worked as a conductor for the Cotton Belt Railroad. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Star City, the Modern Woodmen of the World; he received his Master Mason degree at the Jacob Brump Lodge #160 in Pine Bluff and was a current member of the Branchville Lodge in Star City; a member of the Jack Stone Hunting Club in Ashley County, a past patron of the Eastern Star Chapter, an ordained deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Star City; a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, and an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife, Laquita McCurry Wisner of Star City; one son, John C. Wisner III of Sherwood; two daughters, Joy Graham of Monticello and Angel Owen of Griffith Springs; three sisters, Francis Kresser of San Diego, CA, Martha Gangnath of Winchester, TN, and Gloria Doty of Lebanon, IL; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jackie Wisner, and one sister, Mary Johnston.
Funeral services will planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, at the First Baptist Church in Star City with Bro. Randy Magar officiating. Burial was to follow services at the Mount Olive Cemetery in Ashley County. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Star City.
