In 1951, Dave, his brother and his older sister, moved with their parents to Iola, Kansas. His youngest brother was born there. The family moved to Marysville, Kansas in 1954, and this is where the children spent most of their school years. The family moved once more in 1966 to Manhattan, Kansas where Dave graduated from high school in 1968.
Dave entered the Air Force and was stationed in Newfoundland and then at the NORAD Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station in Colorado Springs. When he left the Air Force, he remained in Colorado Springs, attending technical school in electronics.
He returned to Kansas and became a deputy sheriff in Onaga, Kansas where he met and married his wife and they had two sons.
Dave then went to work for Baldersons Caterpillar in Wamego, Kansas and worked there until 2010 when his health began to fail. Dave died unexpectedly at his home in Wamego.
