Barbara B. Wisdom, 75, of Willistown, recently of Mullica Hill, N.J., died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, after a long battle with cancer.
Barbara was an extraordinary woman who overcame adversity, a pioneer who took risks and blazed a trail for many other women in the financial planning industry. She lived her life fully and loved her family and friends warmly. Her quick wit and sense of humor were always present and her laugh was infectious.
She felt blessed in many ways, especially by the joyous companionship of her circle of friends in Deerfield Knoll. She gave back to the community quietly, and in a final act of generosity donated her body for scientific research.
Barbara was a graduate of Haverford High School and Millersville University. She taught elementary school for several years before transitioning as a young widow to a long and successful career in financial planning. Barbara was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Donald Wisdom. She is survived by her children Stephen Wisdom of Westport, Conn., Karen Wisdom of Mullica Hill, N.J. and James Wisdom of Downingtown; her brother, Stephen Burbank of Fort Pierce, Fla.; and four grandsons. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, at St. Francis-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church in Malvern, where the family will receive guests starting at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, or to the American Cancer Society directed to head and neck or sarcoma research.
