Dortha Belle Wirtz Clay, Edmond resident and formerly of Kildare, died Monday morning, Oct. 8, 2012, at the Bradford Village Care Center, Edmond. She was 86.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the Miller-Stahl Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Starbucks, interim minister of the North Side Christian Church of Oklahoma City officiating. Interment will follow in the Newkirk Cemetery. Miller-Stahl Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. The body will lie in state at the funeral home Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon.

She was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Peckham, Okla., the daughter of William Henry and Daisy Levene Morley Wirtz, She grew up in Kildare and attended grade school there, and she graduated from Ponca City High School in 1944. Following graduation, she attended Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1948 with a Business Administration Degree.

On March 4, 1950, she married Jack Lee Clay in Winfield, Kan. They established their first home in Stillwater, moving later to Elk City. They moved to Taloga and back to Elk City before moving to Edmond where she has since resided.

She was employed as Executive Secretary for Continental Oil Company, as stenographer and typist for the Clinton Sherman Air Force Base, as secretary for Taloga Public Schools, and as Media Librarian of the Western Regional Service Center for Oklahoma Public Schools.

A member of the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family. Even as accomplished as she was, she was clearly the most proud of the family she raised.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; her daughter, Nancy Howell of Edmond; sons, Robert Clay of Rolla, Mo. and Chris Clay of Owasso; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Those serving as casket bearers will be David Howell, Robert Clay, Chris Clay, Preston Young and David Lee Howell.

A memorial fund has been established with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimer's Research. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Clay's name through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk, OK 74647.
