Mabel K. Boone, 100, of Keokuk died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at her home.

Born Aug. 28, 1912, in rural Keokuk, she was the daughter of Christian and Clara Miller Wirtz. On June 21, 1942, she married John T. Boone. He died March 22, 2012.

Mrs. Boone worked 35 years as a secretary for several area businesses, including S.F. Baker, General Mills and Sheller Globe, all in Keokuk, and retired in 1977. She graduated from Keokuk High School in 1930. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk. She enjoyed sewing and was known as a caring, loving woman devoted to her husband and children and the life they shared.

Survivors include one son, John Boone of Rocky Mount, Mo.; two daughters, Ruth Clanton of Daphne, Ala., and Mary Reeves of Keokuk; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Verna Smith of Keokuk.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, where family will receive friends.

The funeral for Mrs. Boone will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Matt Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk.

Memorials have been established for St. Paul United Church of Christ and Lee County Hospice.
