Dallas O. Wirey

A service for Dallas O. Wirey will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vandivier-Parsley Funeral Home in Franklin. The Rev. Yvonne Trueblood will conduct the service. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

He died Monday morning at Johnson Memorial Hospital. He was 87 and was a resident of Franklin.

He was born June 18, 1903, in Bartholomew County. His parents were Alonzo A. Wirey and Sadie E. (Coy) Wirey. He married Lucille E. Adams Dec. 12, 1925, in Franklin. She survives. Other survivors include a son, R. Gene Wirey of Franklin; a brother, Wayne Wirey of New Albany; a sister, Sophia M. Beaman of Franklin; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; and a step great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl O. Wirey; and a sister, Alta Marie Wirey.

He attended Clark Township schools and Franklin High School.

He owned and operated Wirey's Texaco Service in Franklin before retiring. For more than 30 years, he was a substitute mail carrier in the Franklin area.

He played drums in several area dance bands in the 1920s.

He belonged to Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin; Franklin Masonic Lodge 107, F&AM; Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite; Johnson County Shrine Club; and Franklin Kiwanis Club, where he had served as past president. He also had been a past chairman of Kiwanis District Inter-Club.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund or Franklin Masonic Lodge Building Fund.
