Alvin Wirey Dies At Home Today
Funeral Rites Set For Saturday Morning
After an illness of 15 months, Alvin Wirey, died at his home in the Union community Wednesday morning at 5:55 o'clock. He suffered a heart attack on Jan. 3, 1949 and two months ago his condition become critical when he suffered another attack.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Edinburg Methodist Church Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock. The Rev. Ray Bozell will be in charge of the service with the Rev. George Wyatt, of the Union Christian Church, assisting. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Vandivier funeral home Thursday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock, Friday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m., in the evening from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday until time for the service. They are invited to attend the rites.
Born Near Nineveh
Mr. Wirey was born south of Nineveh, Nov. 23, 1876, and was the son of John and Matilda Hanks Wirey. His entire life had been spent in Johnson County where he was a farmer.
On Sept. 16, 1899 he was married to Nettie Coy and they were the parents of seven children. They had observed their golden wedding anniversary last September, but due to his failing health there had been no celebration.
At an early age Mr. Wirey had united with the New Bethel Christian Church in Brown County and during the remainder of his life he had retained his membership there.
Those who survive Mr. Wirey with the widow are three daughters, Mrs. Wayne Hamilton, of Morgantown; Mrs. Fletcher Warren, of Edgewood; Mrs. Calvin A. Wantland, of Indianapolis; and four sons, Orville Wirey, of Speedway City; Oris Wirey, of Dunkirk; Floyd Wirey, of Trafalgar; and Marion Wirey, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Others remaining are 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a brother, Lon Wirey, of Franklin; and one sister, Mrs. William Wray, of Hopewell.
