Samuel Winters was from Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and the husband of Rebecca Winters. He enlisted in Franklin County at the stated age of twenty-two in February 20, 1862, and mustered into federal service in Harrisburg March 1 with Co. H, 107th Pennsylvania Infantry, at the rank of private. Captured at Weldon Railroad August 19, 1864, he became a prisoner in the stockade at Salisbury, North Carolina. Following parole, he was sent to Camp Parole, Annapolis, Maryland, where he died of typhoid fever.
