Zelma H. Karlek
Zelma H. Karlek, age 73, of Mary Esther, Fla., passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 31, 2006, at a local hospital after a brief illness.
Originally from Meridian, Miss., Zelma was a retired Registered Nurse (RN) with more than 40 years of service. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Zelma always placed her family's needs before her own.
Zelma was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John; her young son, George Henry; her parents, James and Gertrude Winstead; three sisters, Juanice Strickland, Bernice Milstead and Adele Parks; and two brothers, Parks and James Winstead.
Zelma is survived by her children: sons, Phillip Karlek of Liberty, S.C., John Karlek and wife Brenda of Niceville, Fla., Jimmy Karlek of Mary Esther, and Michael Karlek of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; daughters, Debbie Karlek of Fort Walton Beach, and Donna Karlek-Watts and husband Beau Watts of Crestview, Fla.; grandsons, Bryce, Drake and Adam Karlek; granddaughters, Cassandra Frazee and husband Mike, Brandi Davis, Becky and Lindy Karlek, and Jenna Watts. Her great-grandson is Alexander Givens-Vanlue. Zelma is also survived by one sister, Elma Stokes of Mississippi; and several nieces, nephews and friends from Florida, Michigan and Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. at McLaughlin Mortuary Chapel in Fort Walton Beach with the Rev. Jim Vail officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made on behalf of John and Zelma Karlek to the American Cancer Society.
