Obituaries: Raymond Owen Winegar
Aug. 6, 1935 April 14, 2010
Raymond Owen Winegar, 74, of Prairie City, died of heart failure April 14, 2010, in his son's home. A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at the Strawberry Grange in Prairie City.

Mr. Winegar was born Aug. 6, 1935, in Prairie City, to Charles Raymond "Todd" and Thelma Viola (Garner) Winegar. He graduated from Redmond High School in 1953 and, with his younger brother Charles Henry "Hank" Winegar, joined the U.S. Marines in 1954.

On May 12, 1962, he married Jacquelin Rennels. She already had three children and together they had two boys.

The family lived in Redmond until 1980 when he moved back to Prairie City to run his own business up Dixie Creek. He made tamarack shingles, fruit boxes, stickers for local mills and juniper furniture. He also milled on his one-man mill.

He was known as Dad, Grandpa, Radar and, most recently "Ol' Time." In school, he was an avid marble player, winning many competitions, and taught his daughter-in-law and several adult nieces how to play.

He loved to hunt, fish, play cards and make wine. He enjoyed the company of his family and friends, making people laugh and was a welcome guest in many homes. He showed his children and grandchildren how to hunt and fish and his favorite fishing partner was his brother-in-law, Mike Rose.

One of his last greatest pleasures was listening to his granddaughter, Cassia, sing "Save a Place for Me" at his bedside.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie; children, Raymond Tye (Shannon) Winegar of Madras, Richard Todd Winegar of Crooked River Ranch, Kevin (Christine) Dahlen of Prairie City, Carey (Janice) Dahlen of Medford and Renel (Pete) Muro of Canby; grandchildren, Richard, Jason, Christine, Bradley, Jonathan, Timothy, Landon, Jordan, Tyler, Cassia, Alizabeth, Kushaiah and Sierra; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; his aunt Mary Winegar; and siblings, Ella Mae (David) McMullen of Bisbee, N.M., Latrona (Eddie) Smith of Prairie City, Viola (Mike) Rose of Prairie City, Vanda Scott of Lebanon and sister-in-law, Janiece Winegar of Metolius.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank and Hank; sister, Margaret; and his brother-in-law, Mort Rennels.

Memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post 106 in Prairie City through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day, OR 97845.
