Rites Held for Mrs. T J Chambers
Sunday afternoon at 2:30 friends and loved ones assembled in the Chapel of the Barry Funeral Home to pay final tribute to Mrs. T J Chambers who died Saturday following a long illness. The rites were conducted by the Rev. B L Mohon, pastor of the Baptist Church. With Mrs. C A Lyles as organist, Miss Ladye Clyde Stewart, Miss Pasy Ellis and Miss Joanne Jolly sang What a Friend We Have in Jesus and In the Sweet By and By. Burial was in the I O O F Cemetery with Barry in charge.
Pallbearers were: Carl Gordon, R E Beubert, A C Taylor, E D Graham, W G Chenault, W S Stewart, W D Crabb, T C Woodfin.
The honorary escort was composed of: W J Bell, W P Knox, Dr. E K Guinn, R A Roberts, W T Jaggers, John Wylie, W E Bearden, Henry Brady, Charlie McGehee.
Mrs. Chambers, the former Miss Vannie Lee Windham, 78, was a member of a pioneer family. She was a daughter of the late J T Windham and the late Mrs. Louisiana Wafford Windham. She was born in Sparta and lived all her life in Chickasaw County.
In 1901 she married to Samuel Tilden Dendy and came to Okolona to maker her home. Following his death in 1908 she went to Houston with her children and lived there until 1913 when she married Mr. Chambers, a railroad employee, and returned to Okolona. He died about 17 years ago. With the exception of a few years spent on a farm near Vardaman, she had lived here since that time.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother she was a competent business woman and at one time owned and operated a millinery shop in Okolona.
She leaves a son, Samuel Tilden Dendy of Pittsburg, Pa.; two daughters, Mrs. Banks McDowell of Tulsa, Okla., and Miss Frederica Dendy; a brother, J E Windham of Kosciusko; two sisters, Mrs. J A Rish of Houston, and Mrs. Ida Gordon of Fayette; three grandchildren, Banks Jr., Joyce and Samuel Frank McDowell of Tulsa.
