Maxine Winder Baker, 89, of Waverly died Friday evening, Sept 12, at the Waverly Health Center.
She was born June 1, 1923 in Waterloo the daughter of Dewey W. and Gena K. Purkapile Winder.
She married Clele R. Baker on February 20, 1942 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2008.
Maxine graduated from West High School in Waterloo in 1942. She then took real estate courses at Hawkeye Community College and was a realtor associate of Baker Realtors from 1977 until 1980. She also worked to achieve her Water Safety Instructor certification for the American Red Cross. She then taught swimming to many area youth.
Mickey was a 66 year member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, the United Methodist Women and was the last surviving Charter Member of the AMVETS Post 79 Auxiliary. She was a member of the YWCA, was a Girl Scout leader, member of the Garden Club and bridge club.
She is survived by two sons, David W. (Donna) Baker of Woodbury, MN., John D. (Coleen) Baker of Waverly; two daughters, Nancy Baker of Minneapolis, MN, and Margaret Baker (Charles) Roberts of Newport, R.I.; one brother, Bill D. (Ardella) Winder of Waterloo; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Memorial services were Monday, Oct 8, at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, with inurnment in Harlington Cemetery. Friends called at the Church from 3–5 pm on Sunday, Oct 7.
Memorials were directed to the church or the family.
