PEKIN, IL - Dr. H. Jack Wilt, 77, of Pekin passed away at 3:02 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Jack was born Feb. 5, 1933, in Monroe County, Mo., to Nelson M. and Lucille (Obert) Wilt. He was the fifth of six sons.
Jack is survived by his wife, DeDe; children, Lisa, Kevin, Leeann and son-in-law, Rich; grandchildren, Jonathan, Stephen, Katie, Maggie, Erin and Amber; great-grandchildren, Emily Ann and David; and his extended family, Troy and Sheri, Tracy and Mary, Trent and Tracy and their families. Jack is survived by his brother, George; sisters-in-law, Anna Jean, Helen, Linda and Dorsey; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jack's father, mother, four brothers and one sister-in-law preceded him in death.
Jack was a great husband, father and friend. He was loving, kind, caring and very loyal, and he was always fair with everyone. He loved many people, great ideas, golf, good martinis, chocolate and all sports, especially Missouri football and basketball.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1953 until 1955.
Jack really loved his job, all aspects of it. Most important to him were children. He influenced hundreds of lives and relished the successes he witnessed and read about.
He was a teacher and coach at LaBelle High School in LaBelle, Mo., from 1958 to 1961. In 1961, Jack began a long career as superintendent (chief school administrator) for numerous school districts. He served as superintendent for Shelby County C-1 Schools in Shelbyville, Mo., from 1961 to 1965, PORTA C.U. 202 in Petersburg, Ill., from 1965 to 1968, Harlem Consolidated Schools in Loves Park, Ill., from 1969 to 1975, Chicago Ridge High School in Chicago, Ill., from 1975 to 1976, Edwardsville High School in Edwardsville, Ill., from 1976 to 1977, Rock Falls High School District 301 in Rock Falls, Ill., from 1978 to 1985, and last for Pekin Community High School District 303 from 1985 until retiring in 1994. In 2004, Jack went back to work as superintendent of Creve Coeur School District 76. He retired for the last time in 2007.
He earned his doctorate of education administration in 1969.
Jack belonged to Phi Delta Kappa and many civic and professional organizations.
Jack's family wishes to thank the Neuro Critical Care Unit at OSF Saint Francis Hospital for their amazing expertise and wonderful care.
Private burial will be in Shelbina, Mo.
Jack was an organ donor.
