Marian Bernice Wilson Barney
1929 - 2022

Early Life: Marian was born February 10, 1929, to Arthur Paul and Mary Elizabeth Young Wilson, the middle of their three girls. She came from very humble circumstances. The family moved around a lot while her dad worked tirelessly to support the family. They eventually settled in Provo, Utah. She graduated from Provo High School in 1947.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Fate would soon bring Marian and her future husband, Eugene Alma "Bud" Barney, together. Bud suffered a head injury and was hospitalized. On a visit to the hospital, Bud's girlfriend, at the time, brought along one of her friends—Marian. It was love at first sight. One year later, they eloped to Elko, Nevada, and would spend the next 60 years together.
❦ Marian was always on the go. Helping with the children's parade for the 4th of July, serving on the committee for the Festival of Trees, hosting voting for elections at her home, serving as the PTA president, teaching adult education classes in arts and crafts at night, teaching at the local trade tech (now UVU), and serving as Relief Society president. She was still an active member of the "Tinker Dos." A group of friends that have been getting together once a month for several years. Wherever you went you would run into someone that knew Marian Barney. She loved to decorate her house for the holidays. Christmas was extra special. Cursing under his breath, Bud faithfully carried box after box after box down from the attic full of Christmas decorations.
❦ Their home, 113 North 2050 West, was not just an address, it was a destination. Marian's, aka Grandma Barney's, aka Aunt Chic's home was a place where anyone and everyone was welcome. It was a place to stop for a snack, a warm place to stay for the night, a safe haven from the chaos outside. She would always greet you with a smile and a hug. What was Marian's was yours. She knew no attachment to things. She just wanted to help however she could.
❦ To know Marian Barney is to know unconditional love. She never had a bad thing to say about anybody. She saw the good and potential in people. She made you feel special. She gave you hope that things would get better. She now graces the halls of her heavenly home, with her loved ones that have gone before her. On Friday, June 3, 2022, Marian Bernice Wilson Barney was finally reunited with the love of her life, Bud, after 13 long years. She was 93.
Family Message: "Thank you for showing us how to be good. Watch over us and be with us as we strive to be more like you. We will forever love you. During the last year of her beautiful life, she once again showed us all how to live without guile or complaint. She will be truly missed."
Survived By: Her three children: Judy (Norman) Darais, Kenneth (Michelle) Barney, Kathi (Bill) Young; sister, Bonnie Lucido; 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Marian is also survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that dearly love her.
