A native of Elbert County, Ms. Austin was the daughter of the late Hubert Eugene Wilson and Laura Jackson Wilson of Athens.
Ms. Austin was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BS and Masters Degree in Education. She earned a Specialist Degree in Education from Nova Southeastern University and was working on a Doctorate Degree in Education, also from Nova Southeastern University. She was a Physical Education/Health Teacher at Lewis Fraser Middle School in Liberty County. She served 17 years in Air National Guard in units in Ohio, GA and FL.
In addition to her mother, Ms. Austin is survived by a son, Brandon N. Jones and his wife Lisa of Knoxville, TN; sister Cathi Wilson Nix and her husband, James of Hull; grandchildren, Alayna and Chase and nephew and niece, Jeff and Laurie Beth.
Funeral services were held at 3PM Sunday, March 30th in the Bernstein Chapel with Dr. Stewart B. Simms Jr. and Rev. John Walker officiating. Entombment followed at Evergreen Memorial Park with Full Military Honors. The family received friends from 6-8PM Saturday, March 29th at Bernstein Funeral Home and from 1:30-3:00 PM prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Jackson, Mike Jackson, Pat Jackson, Tim Jackson, Albert Vanhelden, and Jeff Nix.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Beech Haven Baptist Church, 2390 W. Broad St., Athens, GA 30606 or Odyssey Hospice, 575 Research Drive, Athens, GA 30605 or a charity of your choice.
