Betty was born to Margaret Harris and Harry Verner Kiley. She was a direct descendant of William Clark (1798-1871) who came to Texas in 1835 before the Republic was established and was one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Betty spent her early childhood in San Antonio where she graduated from Jefferson High School. She graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1948 where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and was active in campus politics. Her early political activism blossomed into a lifelong interest and involvement in the Republican Party. After college, she spent 3 years in the fashion and modeling world in Dallas and with the Harry Conover Agency in New York City. In 1951 she married James Cooke Wilson, Jr. in Houston. Cooke Wilson is from Beaumont, Texas where they spent their early married years. They also lived in Denver, Colorado for a short time and enjoyed skiing in Leadville and the Aspen valley. While residing in Beaumont, Betty was Vice-President of the Junior League of Beaumont, a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and the Magnolia Garden Club. Betty and Cooke later moved their family to Houston where she was a member of the Junior League of Houston, the Garden Club of Houston, the Houston Country Club, the Argyle Club of San Antonio, the Rienzi Society and St. Martin's Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Harris Kiley and Harry V. Kiley, her sister, Jane Kiley Hardy, and her son, Bradley Randolph Wilson. She is survived by her husband James Cooke Wilson, Jr.; her son, James Cooke Wilson III and his wife Karen; her son, Stephen Kiley Wilson and his wife, Terisa and her daughters, Bonnie Baker and Katie Thomas; her daughter, Margaret Wilson Reckling and her husband, Thomas Radcliffe Reckling IV; her two grandchildren, Thomas Radcliffe Reckling V and Kelsey Randolph Reckling. Betty is also survived by her beloved brother-in-law, Dr. Mavis P. Kelsey, Sr. and many nieces and nephews.
