Mrs. Maggie Wilson
Maggie May Payne, the daughter of Chauncey Smith Payne and Cynthia Florilla Chipman Payne, was born at Fulton, Ky., May 21, 1874, and passed away at her home, May 4, 1958, making her age 83 years, 11 months, 18 days. She was the youngest of six children. Her three brothers, Chauncey, John and Hiram Payne preceded her in death, as did her two sisters, Emma Mitchell and Lola Potts. Her family moved to Missouri in a wagon when she was four or five years old. This pioneer family settled near Raymondville where Maggie attended school and later became a teacher. After teaching school for a few years, she was married to James Robert Wilson, September 8, 1899. To this union three sons were born, Guern, Len and Clark.
Her oldest son, Guern, passed away May 6, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan. Her husband preceded her in Death October 1, 1946.
After her marriage, she and her husband moved to a farm in the Oscar community, where she resided for nearly sixty years. Mrs. Wilson joined the Licking Methodist Church in 1915, where she remained a faithful member. She was always active in political, civic, community, church, school and club affairs, and kept herself well informed.
She is survived by two sons, Len of Licking; and Clark of California. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Mrs. June Nielson and Bob Wilson of Detroit, Michigan; and one great granddaughter, Debbie Nielson.
Funeral services were conducted May 6 at Boone Creek Church by Rev. C. B. Kell and Rev. Mack Benson with interment at Boone Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Mitchell, Curtis Stone, Roy Kissiar, George Smith, Charles Kofahi, and Ray Dow Clayton.
Maggie Payne Wilson was the 6th great-granddaughter of Pilgrim John Howland that came to America on the Mayflower in 1620.
