Born in Kent County, Maryland, Carrie was the daughter of William Sappington and Anne Elizabeth Boardley. After both of her parents died in 1848, she was raised by her maternal grandparents Dr. Thomas Bordley and Ann Canady.

On January 16, 1854, she married William L. Greenwood, son of John (of William) Greenwood and Caroline E. V. Adkinson. Their children were John William, George Rogers (Annie Catherine West), Annie P., Maggie Permela and Carrie Lulu B. The first two girls died very young and Carrie died at the age of 21. William L. Greenwood was captured during the Civil War and died at a Southern POW camp.

On November 20, 1868, she married widower William R. Wilmer at Galena Charge M.E. Church, Kent County, Maryland. Their children were William R., James W.L. and E. Birdie Wilmer. Only Birdie survived childhood, but married widower Thomas Flinn too late in life to have children.

OBITUARY

MRS. CAROLINE G. WILMER, widow of William K. wilmer, died at her home, 1214 West Second street, on Tuesday morning, aged 80 years. She is survived by two sons, John Wililam Greenwood and George R. Greenwood, and one daughter, Birdie E. Wilmer, all of Wilmington. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon.

Mrs. Caroline G. Wilmer, aged 80 years, widow of the late William R. Wilmer, formerly of Kent county, Md., but residing in Wilmington, Del., for the past 43 years, die at her home, 1214 W. 2nd St., Wilmington, Del., Tuesday morning, Oct. 19, after an illness of two months. She was taken ill wihle visiting her step-daughter, Mrs. Benjamin E. Benton, of near Massey, Md. She will be buried from her late home 1214 W. 2nd St., Wilmington, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock; interment at Riverview cemetery. She is survived by two sons, J. William and George R. Greendoow, and one daughter, Miss Birdie E. Wilmer. She was a sister of the late James B. Sappington of Chestertown.
