LERA WILLOUGHBY AVERY, age 91, born September 9, 1915 in Van Alystyne, Texas to Ellis and Annie Willoughby, passed away Monday, November 13, 2006 at Spring Shadows Convalescent Center.
Lera was preceded in death by her parents; sister Faye Mitton; daughter-in-law Alice Avery; and grandson Darryl Hart.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Barris Avery; twin-sister Era Akers of Georgetown, Texas; daughter Janice Crawford and husband Robert; son R. David Avery and wife Bertie; grandchildren, Robin Treadwell of Houston, Texas, Charlene Turek and husband Brian of Sugar Land, Texas, Cheryl O'Brien of Sherman, Texas, Alan Hart, Jay Craig and wife Shea of Sugar Land, Texas, and Courtney Maris of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Rana Treadwell, Brianna Turek, Chelsey and Kara O'Brien, Justin, Travis and Dillon Hart, Wiley, Haley and Dustin Maris; one great-great-grandson arriving soon as well as numerous nieces and nephews; sisters Annie Mae McGuffee and Robbie Lewis of Sherman, Texas.
Lera grew up in north Texas and married Barris Avery. They moved to Houston where her two children were born. She was a dedicated employee of First City National Bank for many years and was a member of Lindale Baptist Church.
The family wishes to thank the caregiver Tammy Wyatt for her help and compassion.
A celebration of Lera's life will begin at 8:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, Texas with Rev. Jim Tucker, officiating.
Serving as pallbearers are Larry Akers, Gary Akers, Lee Avery, Jay Craig, Brian Turek, Chad Jarnagin and Charles Moore.
