Marie Beatrice Smith Williams
STRASBURG - Marie Beatrice Smith Williams, 100, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at Skyline Terrace Nursing Home in Woodstock.
Mrs. Williams was born on Feb. 20, 1907, in Strasburg, daughter of the late Perry Stewart and Daisy Hottle Smith. She was a member of the Strasburg Town Council having served for 15 years, and had been very active in the Strasburg Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member for 58 years and served as president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Northern Virginia Fire Association and held every office within the Virginia State Fire Association and local auxiliary. She was the founder of the Teenage Club, a former manager of Recreation Inc., manager of the Strasburg pool for five years, a lifetime member of the PTA and a member the Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she and Rosalie Cash started the Compassion Cupboard in the church basement many years ago. She was employed by National Fruit in Winchester, where she worked as a supervisor for 15 years. She was the wife of the late Sandy Scott Williams.
Surviving are a son, P. Thomas Williams and wife Reia of Strasburg; three daughters, Margaret W. Bromley and Martha W. Brill and husband Winston, all of Strasburg, and Sherry W. Rodgers and husband Bill of Bend, Ore.; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and nine great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three daughters-in-law, Linda Williams of Strasburg, Shirley Williams of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Pat Williams Stover of Winchester.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Archie S. Williams, John S. Williams and Richard C. Williams; a grandson, Todd Sandy Brill; four brothers, Frank Smith, Perry Smith, Vivian Smith and Julius Smith; three sisters, Daisy Kern, Agnes Whittington and Aunt "Bill" Stickley; and a son-in-law, Charles J. Bromley Jr.
A funeral was conducted Thursday, Dec. 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Strasburg by the Rev. Dr. Richard J. Goeres. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg.
