Frances (Cutie) Lilbourne Oakland, 87, of Cumberland, R.I., died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006 at Oakland Grove Health Center, Woonsocket, R.I. after a short but brave battle with cancer. Born in Cape Charles on April 8, 1919 to Judge W.F.D. (Billy) and Lillie (Bland) Williams, she moved to Rhode Island after marrying her husband Joseph A. Oakland in 1944, who preceded her in death in 1988. Cutie was a long time member of the Altar Guild at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Pawtucket and volunteered her time each week for many years creating beautiful flower arrangements. She and her husband were founding members of the Abbott Run Valley Swim and Tennis Club. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed gardening in her yard and taking care of the neighborhood dogs. Cutie was especially proud of her heritage coming from the Eastern Shore of Virginia. She is survived by two sons, Air Force Captain (Ret.) William (Woodie) Oakland and his wife Terry of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Jeffrey A. Oakland of Cumberland; two grandsons, John A. Oakland and Jeffrey A. Oakland of Kamuela, Hawaii; a great grandson Jai A. Oakland also of Kamuela, Hawaii; and a brother W.M.B. Williams of Houston, Texas. A funeral service will be held today, Oct. 7 at 1p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Park Place, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Contributions in her memory to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated. For guest book please visit www.legacy.com.
