Mrs. Calhoun was born to the union of Amos and Elise Davis-Williams. She grew up in Anson, Texas where she finished Frederick Douglas High School. She earned a BA Degree from Houston-Tilotson College, Austin, Texas and did graduate studies at Our Lady of The Lake and Trinity Universities (San Antonio). Mrs. Calhoun taught school at Big Lake, Bryan, Texas before moving to San Antonio where she taught at Sheppard Middle School, SSAISD more that thirty-five years, before retiring in 2004. She was an active member of NEA, TSTA and AFT and served as president of the SSAISD local chapter for ten more years .
