Donna Williams Collett, age 82, passed away July 7. She was reunited with her sweetheart Carl, who passed away Dec. 2004.
Donna was born Nov 9, 1926, to Roland and Hilda Belcher Williams in Vernal. She was the oldest of six children. She married Carl Stringham Collett May 25, 1946, they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1962.
Together they were examples of what determination and hard work can accomplish. In 1965 they moved their family of seven children from Vernal to Flaming Gorge where they started Colletts Recreation Service in Dutch John and purchased the Flaming Gorge Lodge in 1971. They, with their children and grandchildren, worked together to build the Lodge into a thriving business. They experienced some of their most memorable family experiences in the beautiful mountains surrounding the Gorge.
Donna loved the outdoors. She loved rock hunting, growing a garden, cookouts in the backyard, going for rides, and more than anything she loved being with her family.
Donna was a meticulous planner and organizer. She brought her family and grandchildren together for many picnics, cookouts, annual Easter Egg Hunts, Christmas gatherings and numerous other occasions. She loved her family, and was always so proud when speaking of her many grandchildren. Donna's life was centered around family and the gospel of Jesus Christ, where she served in various callings. She was a hard worker, something she learned from her father at an early age.
When she was very young she would work in the fields with him from dawn until dusk. This is something that was carried down through her family. She always found the best in everyone and everything around her. You would always see her helping others with a smile and being charitable to those around her.
In 1999, after 35 years on the mountain, they sold the Lodge and moved to Maeser and spent their winters in St. George. There they enjoyed being among friends and enjoying the outdoors of the South. Although she loved her homes in Maeser and St. George they could never replace her true home on the mountain. She always spoke of how she and Carl loved those mountains.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 58 years Carl S Collett; brother Dale Williams; and grandson, Taylor Collett. She will be greatly missed by her children, Craig (Sandy) Collett, Randy (Jay) Cornaby, Carl Ray (Wanda) Collett, Terell (Sheryl) Collett, Donetta (Herald) Egbert, Tracy (Susan) Collett, and Guy (Dee) Collett; sister, Marita (Garth) Batty; brother Bob Williams, brother Larry (JoDean) Williams and sister Joleen (David) Freemyer. She is also survived by 34 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
She will always hold a piece of our hearts and will be missed as a mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.
