EVANSVILLE COURIER & PRESS OBITUARY – 02/13/2004
Sarah I. "Chessie" Cheshire, 100, of Evansville, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2004, at Good Samaritan Home. She was born in Evansville on January 27, 1904, daughter of Shirley and Mary Williams of Corydon, Kentucky. She married Walter J. Ottman of Evansville in 1926, who died in 1934. In 1941, she married William L. Cheshire of Evansville, who died in 1983. Chessie was office manager and private secretary to Dr. H. Jerome Rietman, Psychiatrist. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Agnes Sykes of Lake Wales, Florida; stepdaughter and caregiver, Doris Barrow of Evansville; granddaughters, Sally Bixler of Indianapolis and Maureen Van Hook of Evansville and Becky Bohrer and Kathy Nelson, both of Evansville; grandsons, David, Tim and John Moers, all of Evansville; stepgrandchildren, Jeannie Franklin, Jim Barrow II and Julie Barrow, all of Evansville, Michael Reida of Des Moines, Iowa, and Steve, Bill and John Reida and Mary Kay Rowell, all of Omaha, Nebraska; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally A. Moers; granddaughters, Judie Moers and Sherry A. (O'Brien) Shore; a stepdaughter, Jeanne Reida; and a stepson, James R. Cheshire. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 14, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 South Hebron Avenue. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery. Visitation is today, February, 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, continuing Saturday, February 14, from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Home or Visiting Nurse Association Hospice.
