Services held Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., New Bethel Baptist Church, 503 Brooks Avenue, Venice, California, Pastor Marvis L. Davis, Sr., Officiating.

Ethel "Pest" Laverne Williams-Brown was born October 3, 1950 in Los Angeles, California. She was the youngest child born to Willie and Bertie Mae Williams.

Ethel confessed her belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age. She attended New Bethel Baptist Church where she served faithfully for many years under the leadership of Pastors Luther McCraw, Larry K. Reese and Marvis L. Davis Sr. Ethel continued her service to the Lord as ACTS of Santa Monica under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Metoyer until she relocated to Palmdale. She spent her childhood years in Venice, California where she attended Westminster Elementary, Mark Twain Junior High and Venice High School. After graduating from Venice High, Ethel attended Venice Skills Center where she acquired a variety of knowledge and skills. Ethel was employed for a number of years at the RAND Corp. and Prudential Insurance Company as a Claims Adjuster until her health became a challenge.

Although Ethel faced a number of challenges with her health, the Lord gave her a very special way of reaching out to others. She always had a welcoming smile and to those who really knew her, a great sense of humor. But, one of her greatest blessings was her gift of writing poetry. Ethel "had a way with words." With her poetry she has touched the hearts of all who had had the privilege to read her work. She loved playing the piano, listening to music and enjoyed going to musicals. Contrary to the belief by her sons, Ethel had a beautiful voice and sang in the choir for a number of years. She loved singing songs of praise to the Lord.

We loved Ethel but the Lord lover her more. Her memories will be cherished by: two sons, Kevin Boney of Palmdale, CA and Cardell Henderson (Nickki) of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Dion, Dorian and Dabris Henderson of Houston, TX; five sisters, Mary Frances Alexander of Compton, Mae Dean Phillips of Venice, Essie May Mayberry (Clifton), Dorothy McClendon of Los Angeles; one brother, Williams Jr. of Los Angeles; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Active Pallbearers: Kevin Boney, Rochelle McClendon, Desmond Mayberry, Stan Muhammad, Bernard Shockley and Major Barbee.

Honorary Pallbearers: Larry V. Pruitt and Charles Young Sr.

Directors in Charge: Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary, 3801 West Manchester Boulevard, Inglewood, CA.
