Son of Jacob Williams and Catherine Mueller.
I wondered how my great-grandfather got his middle name. As I was tracing the family tree, I was able to verify an old family story.
Jo Desha Williams' father Jacob, served in the Civil War under the command of Capt. Jo Desha.
That was Captain Jo Desha, who miraculously arose from near death due to being shot in the head with a cannon ball, sat up on his stretcher after he was borne away from the battlefield, and remarked to his astonished men, "I am all right I believe," and went back to the line.
When Jacob Williams returned from the war, he named his first son born afterward in honor of his intrepid commanding officer.
