Gerald Richard "Jerry" "Papa" Wilkin, passed away Saturday, Oct 24, 2009 at St. Alphonsus Hospital. Gerald was born to Lenore and Ora Wilkin on November 11, 1922 in Payette, Idaho. He was raised on the Oregon Slope and graduated from Ontario High School before entering the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific Theater -Bougainville until the end of the war. Gerald married the love of his life, Jacqueline Ann Dillon, in l947 and had five wonderful children. He farmed in Payette and Kuna, Idaho as well as being a mechanic for Consolidated Frieghtways. In l959 he opened his own traditional blacksmith/fabrication shop, Wilkin's Pigiron Emporium in Meridian Idaho.He loved to showcase his blacksmithing craftmanship skills at various communnity events. Gerald was a member of Knights of Columbus and Bishop Kelly Boosters. He designed and fabricated the first set of bleachers at BK in 1964. He, along with good friend, Bob Allen, spent many hours volunteering at the BK football and basketball games. He was also a volunteer at St Al's, driving the cart in the parking lot, and was a blood donor. Jackie and Gerald were active members of Sacred Heart Parish. He was happiest when spending time at the family cabin in Crouch, Idaho. He designed and constructed, together with his beloved children, the cabin in Pine Tree Ranch in Crouch. Both Gerald and Jackie loved to travel. Their travels took them to all 50 states as well as abroad. Gerald was most proud of his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jackie, his sister and brother in law, Noreen and Jack Bowman and five children; Kathy (Jim) Rogers, Denny (Jean) Wilkin, Pat (Frank) Wees, Dick (Suzanne) Wilkin, and Mary (Don) Cronin. He also had several grandchildren which he lovingly referred to as "anklebiters": Sean (Kris) Robinson, Shelle (Josh) McKelvey, Bryan (Becky) Robinson, Matt (Deborah) Rogers, Jennifer (Tony) Drost, Jamie (Charles) Chisolm, Sarah Wilkin, Stephanie Wilkin, Andrew Wilkin, Amber (Ben) McGarvey, Eric (Mary) Cronin, Ashley Cronin, John (Sharon) Wilkin, Jeff Wilkin, and June (Todd) Fisher. There are also 15 great grandchildren. We would like to thank all family members and well wishers who showed support and love during Gerald's difficult time. A special thanks to the caregivers at The Cottages Assisted Living-Meridian, St Alphonsus staff, and Kristy Prall, RN and staff at Legacy Hospice of Meridian. Services are being held through Bowman Funeral Chapel with services at Sacred Heart Church. There will be a rosary at 7:00 p.m., Monday October 26, with a funeral mass, Tuesday October 27, 2009 at 10:30 both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 811 S. Latah, Boise, Idaho. Graveside services will be at a later date with the immediate family.
