Chico Enterprise-Record, Friday, July 12, 1968: "Vera Colburn. Vera Colburn, a resident of Cohasset and Chico since 1908, died yesterday at a local convalescent hospital. Born May 12, 1892, in Greenville, Plumas County, she was the wife of the late Avery S. Colburn and was related to famed writer Samuel S. Clemens, `Mark Twain.' Survivors include a brother, Alvy C. Wilkerson of Palo Alto; a daughter, Leah Knightlinger [sic] of Oakland; four grandsons, Robert, Tommy, Richard and James Morton; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at the First Assembly of God Church at 1137 Arbutus Ave. with the Rev. George E. Elrod presiding."

From the Death Certificate on file with the State of California: Born in California on May 12, 1892, the daughter of Thomas Wilkerson, [mother's name unknown by informant, Ed.], Vera Alice Colburn died in Chico on July 11, 1968. A widowed homemaker, Mrs. Colburn had resided in the county for the past 60 years. Informant was James Morton, of Oakland. Burial took place at the Christian Service Society Cemetery on July 13, 1968.

From Other Sources: Born in Greenville, California, Vera Alice Colburn was aged 76 years at the time of her death. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. in the First Assembly of God Church, conducted by Rev. George Elrod, with prayer offered by Rev. Carl Glidewell. Casketbearers were Robert R. Morton, Thomas M. Morton, Arthur Kightlinger, Roy Walton, Fred Tidmarsh, and Carl Glidewell.
