Faith Wilford Boylan, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Laurels in Highland Creek, Charlotte.
Born in Elyria, Ohio, October 5, 1912, she graduated from Elyria High School in Jan. 1930. She attended Martha Washington Junior College in Abingdon, VA where she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. She also attended Wooster College and studied piano at the Oberlin Conservatory.
Faith married Elyria native Robert E Boylan in 1934 and they had four children.
Faith's parents were both devout Christians who showed their love of God through their love for family, friends and their community. Faith followed in their footsteps. She was a volunteer in organizations such as the Community Chest, the Elyria Memorial Hospital, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Republican Women's Club, Elyria Musical Art Society, and the YWCA. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, where she led the Church Women, served on the Vestry, and taught Sunday School. For her long commitment to serving her community, she was selected First Lady of Elyria in 1962.
Faith loved reading and was a member of the Four O'Clock Literary Club and also the Round Table. She worked for thirteen years at the Lorain County Board of Elections to help make a college education possible for all four of her children.
In 2005 she moved to Charlotte. She resided at the Laurels in Highland Creek assisted living facility was an active and beloved member of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church.
She is survived by four children: James Boylan, Gurnee, IL, Sally Kaminski of Elyria, Robert Boylan, Charlotte, NC and Elizabeth Green, Cornelius, NC; five grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994.
Faith had a sweetness and a positive outlook on life which brought joy to many people. She also had a delightful quick wit. She shall be truly missed, but her stories and her joy will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew her.
The family wishes to thank Hospice at Charlotte and Home Instead for their compassionate care. Most of all, they wish to thank the staff at the Laurels in Highland Creek for the care and love they gave her for the past 5 years.
Funeral services will be held on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Funeral Liturgy will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 p.m. with visitation one hour prior all at Nativity of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church, 1700 Mineral Springs Road, Charlotte, NC 28262.
Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
A reception will follow the burial at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel in the Celebration of Life Reception Hall.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in her memory to: Nativity of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church, PO Box 2268 Davidson, NC 28036.
