BOONVILLE, Ind. - Walter J. Wildt, 90, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at the Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. Walter was a member of the St. Matthews Church in Lynnville, IN. He was an oiler on the Stripmaster Dragline #5761 with Peabody Coal Company for over 41 years. He retired in 1984. He also was a farmer and raised white faced cattle. He was an outstanding basketball player at Mackey High School and loved watching Indiana University basketball. He enjoyed gardening, mowing his yard and dancing. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Walter was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 9926, Lynnville Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Iona (Tyring) Wildt; one daughter, Gail Scherer and her husband, Bill, of Mt. Jackson, Virginia; one son, Gary Wildt and his wife, Kathy, of Lynnville IN; four grandchildren, Trent David Scherer and his wife, Melissa, Tara Leigh Haley and her husband, Bill, Craig Alan Wildt and his wife, Sheri, and Carla Sue Kissel and her husband, Tony; seven great-grandchildren, Liam Haley, Iona Haley, Karis Haley, Connor Wildt, Cory Wildt, Ava Sue Kissel and Ezekial Walter Scherer; two brothers, Charles Wildt and Arthur Wildt both of Boonville IN. Walter was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Scherer, and a brother, Ed Wildt. Services for Walter will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2008, from the St. Matthew Church in Lynnville, IN, with entombment in the Park Lawn Cemetery in Evansville, IN. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Pemberton-Bradley Funeral Home in Lynnville, IN, and from 8 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. The Rev. Ron Gates and the Rev. Bill Haley will officiate. Contributions in memory of Walter may be made to the St. Matthew Church. The family would like to thank Dr. Tummera and the nurses on the 6th floor of Deaconess Gateway Hospital for the wonderful care given to Walter.
