Funeral services for Homer Lafayette Wild, 86, of Lubbock will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005 in Englunds Chapel with Dr. Cleve Kerby officiating. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Homer passed from this life Nov. 24, 2005. He was born in Slaton on June 4, 1919.
He graduated from Slaton High School in 1937 and attended Draughns Business College. He had worked for Santa Fe Railroad, Frontier Savings Stamps, Gold Bond, Baldridge Bakery, Acme Bricks and White's Auto in Shallowater. He retired from the Base Housing Office at Reese Air Force Base in 1984.
Homer was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Marine Corps. He was with the 5th Marine Division landing and fighting on Iwo Jima, where he received the Purple Heart and witnessed the US flag raising on Mount Suribachi. He was a member of the Disable Veterans Association #44, VFW Post 2466 and did volunteer work at the VA Outpatient Clinic.
Homer married Ruth Eleanor Huser on March 4, 1946 in D'Hanis, Texas. His survivors include his wife, Ruth; sons, Lynn and Charles; daughters, Marilyn Yoakum, Donna Bishop, and Kristi Yorty, all of Lubbock and Connie Sands of New Martinsville, WV, 9 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
