After a long lingering illness, Ann Ashman, wife of John Ashman, finished her mortal estate last Monday morning about 3 o'clock at her home in Fillmore City, surrounded by her immediate relatives. Mrs. Ashman was born at Leeds, Yorkshire, England, April 25, 1827 and was the daughter of Thomas Wilde and Sarah Rushforth. She became the wife of John Ashman Nov. 18, 1844 and became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1852. With her husband and children, she left her native land in the summer of 1864 and arrived at Filmore in September the same year, where her home has been ever since and during all that time, except a few years of late, she has been a leading member of the Fillmore Ward Choir. She was the mother of 7 children, 65 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Two of her children died in England and two in Fillmore. Her three living are Mrs. Ann Carling, Mrs. Isabel Peterson both residing at Fillmore, and Mrs. Ellen Webb who is residing in Mexico. The aged patriarch John Ashman, her surviving husband feels the loss of the wife of his youth very keenly. They had shared each others joy and sorrows, adversities and prosperities since she was a 17 year old girl, when their destinies were linked together. The whole community sympathize with the husband and children in their loss.
