Betty Wilburn, 78, of Krebs, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at McAlester Regional Health Center. Born Sept. 16, 1927, in Atwood, she was the daughter of Arthur and Berta (Hilton) Cain. She moved to McAlester as a child with her family and attended McAlester schools, graduating from McAlester High School in 1945. Shortly after graduation she went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She continued to work there for 35 years, retiring in 1981 as a service representative. After retirement she stayed involved with other retired telephone employees and also her high school classmates. She enjoyed working at the church soup kitchen and delivering Meals on Wheels. She married Hugh C. Wilburn on Aug. 6, 1965, in Eufaula, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1989. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of McAlester. She also belonged to the Telephone Pioneers of America and was a member of the McAlester Building Foundation. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother; a half-sister and a great-grandson. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with Pastor J. P. "Pat" Hackler officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
