Clarence Muril Wilburn, 81, passed away on May 18, 2006 after a long struggle with many health problems. He was born November 22, 1924 in Marietta, OK, and was nicknamed 'Babe' by his father. He grew up in Ardmore, OK and moved to Oklahoma City in 1946. He married Martha Ann Johnson on June 21, 1946 and they were devoted to each other throughout their almost 60 year marriage. It was apparent to all who saw the way Clarence and Martha look at one another that they were still deeply in love. In World War II, he served in the Navy Sea-Bees in the South Pacific. He also served in the Air Force in the Motor Vehicle Squadron at Sampson Air Force Base in New York during the Korean War. Clarence worked 44 years in the wholesale food industry with Fleming Companies. After his retirement in 1989, he greatly enjoyed attending Fleming Retirees Club events. Clarence was a loving, kind, considerate, and courageous man. He was an attentive listener, had a good sense of humor, and was famous for his popcorn. He enjoyed watching Nascar races, spoiling grandchildren, writing poetry, and being with his wife. He was especially proud of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Vesta Marie Wilburn, and his brothers, Bill, Jack, and Kenneth Wilburn. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Wilburn; brother and sister-inlaw, Delbert and Carolyn Wilburn; daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Nels Nelson; son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Vicki Wilburn; twin daughters, Jean and Jane Wilburn; daughter and son-inlaw, Nancy Wilburn and Bob Kilpatrick; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandsons, and two more great-grandchildren on the way. Clarence and his family wish to express gratitude to the Mercy Health Center Trauma ICU nursing staff, palliative care nurse Patricia, and Chaplain Byron for their devoted care during Clarence's extended hospital stay. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel followed by a graveside service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Clarence's memory may be made to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Lung Association.
