MARQUETTE HEIGHTS, IL - Anna Marie Anderson, 83, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Marquette Heights, passed away at 7:05 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, in Washington, D.C.

She was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Woodson, Ill., to John and Grace (McHorter) Wilber. She married Leo P. Murtha, then married Robert E. Powell and later married John A. Anderson on Oct. 13, 1980, in California. He died Sept. 7, 1987.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, John Wilber.

Surviving are one son, Paul E. (Andrea) Murtha of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Brian, Amy and Daniel Murtha; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida M. Bridges of Springfield, Ill., and Nina J. Spurlock of East Peoria, Ill.; and two brothers, James A. Wilber of Springfield, Ill., and David B. Wilber of St. Louis, Mo.

Anna Marie retired in 1984 as a senior chief after serving 20 years in the U.S. Navy. She also taught in business and community colleges for 18 years, retiring from federal civil service in 1989.

She was past national president and life member of the National CPO Association. She was past national president and life member of WAVES National. She was a life member of the National Navy Club; life member of the Fleet Reserve Association; state director for the state of California in AARP, TREA; East Peoria, Ill., Home Extension; East Peoria, Ill., Women's Club; Alpha Iota International Sorority and Marquette Heights Lioness Club.

She was a member of Eastside Bible Church in Morton, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Eastside Bible Church, 1310 W. Jefferson St., Morton, Ill., with the Rev. Steve Weber officiating. Committal services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Ill., with full military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the Eastside Bible Church or to the Humane Society of Morgan County in care of H.S.M.C. at P.O. Box 705, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
