Obituary:

Mrs. H. L. Wikel

Coming as a distinct shock, the death of Mrs. Fannie Leah Wikle, wife of Mr. Henry L. Wikel, who resided in Union, has brought deep sorrow to many hearts here. Only a very brief illness preceded her departure from this life, she having been stricken with what was first thought to be appendicitis last Wednesday night. She was rushed to the Hinton Hospital on Thursday in the hope that an operation would save her but on reaching there it was found that peritonitis had set in and the operation could not be performed. She passed into eternal peace at the hospital at 3 o'clock Saturday morning, April 10, 1926. Mrs. Wikel was 30 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Letcher and Mrs. Lauzena Wilson and was born near Sinks Grove, this county. When about four years of age she was taken into the home of Mrs. J. A. Leach of that community and there she grew to young womanhood. On January 7, 1913 she was united in marriage to Mr. Wikel and thereafter they made their home on the Knobs near Union until about three years ago when they moved to Union and since have made their home here. On Mr. Wikel who survives her, the blow of her untimely death falls heavily for she leaves motherless six little children, Clarence, Estelle, Harold, Margie, Marie and James Howard, the last of whom is only eight weeks old. To the bereaved husband and children the hearts of the entire community go out in tender sympathy in the great loss of their kind and loving wife and mother. Mrs. Wikel is also survived by her mother and four brothers and four sisters, namely Messrs. Lee Wilson of Sinks Grove, Lake, Thomas and Porter Wilson of near Union, and Misses Lelia and Annie Wilson and Mrs. Geo. Taylor of Union,, and Mrs. Glenna Evans of Akron, Ohio. Early in life Mrs. Wikel became a member of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church and when they moved to Union she had her membership transferred to the Presbyterian Church here. She lived an exemplary Christian life and by her kindly and Christian ministries as wife, mother and neighbor she won the affection and respect of all. Her mortal remains
were brought back to Union last Sunday and funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Robt. R. Gray, after which she was laid to rest in Green Hill Cemetery. The large number of friends who gathered to pay their last homage to the departed attested the affection and regard in which she was held.
