SARAH ANN (WIKE) HUBBARD ,daughter of William and Hannah (Heagy) Wike, was born in Newville, Cumberland county, Pa., Feb. 27, 1841, and settled in Barry township at what is known as Shields mill. She grew to womanhood and spent her life in this vicinity. She married Nathan M Selby on 31 Dec 1856 in Pike County, Illinois. Her marriage to William G Hubbard took place April 18, 1867. To them were born five children--Mrs. Hattie Gay, of Rockport, Ill.; Wm. W. of New Canton, Ill.; Mrs. Mary Penny and Miss Lottie at home. A daughter, Maggie, died in infancy. Mr. Hubbard died December 17, 1905, after which she moved to Barry about 13 years ago. She untied with the Baptist church in 1900. She was a home-loving woman and for several years has not even been up town on the streets of Barry. She has been in poor health for some time and quietly fell asleep Sunday evening, Nov 17, 1918, at 5:00 p.m.; aged 77 years, 8 months and 20 days. She was the oldest of a family of six children and was left without a father's care when 12 years of age. Her brothers, George and John H. Wike, and also a sister, Mrs. Mary Crane, have preceded her in death. Besides her children she leaves five grandchildren, who will mourn her death. Thus passes another good woman who has long dwelt among us and been a blessing to many. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard were members of Pike chapter No. 20, O.E.S. of Barry. Funeral services in her memory were held from the family home Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1918, at 2:30 p.m. in charge of Reb. W. M. Halley. The services were in accord with her wishes--very brief and simple in character. Burial was made in Park Lawn cemetery.
