Funeral services will be held for Wilma Anderson of Milford at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji. Interment will be at Milford Cemetery.
Wilma Marie Anderson was born in Walcott, Iowa on May 15, 1920 to John and Dorothy (Ibes) Seims. At an early age, her parents passed away and she resided in the Iowa Soldiers Home in Davenport for a short time. In September 1928, at the age of eight, she came to live with William and Sophia Wiese in Spirit Lake. On Sept. 29, 1929, she was legally adopted by the Wieses.
On Feb. 19, 1939, Wilma was united in marriage to Alvin Anderson at Spirit Lake. Three children blessed this union, Beverly Jean, Raymond Russell and Lois Irene.
They were farmers at heart, farming in Arnolds Park, Lake Park and Milford. Wilma always loved the outside and continued with her flowers and large garden, which she did so enjoy sharing with family and friends. She was delighted to give to older people who rewarded her with their big smiles of thanks.
Wilma was baptized and joined First Lutheran Church on April 20, 1947, where she remained a member. She taught Sunday School for eight years and also belonged to a circle and numerous committees.
Wilma worked at Hi-Point as a waitress for 17 years, cooked at the school for nine years and was a clerk at Lakes Hardware (Tru-Value) for 27 years.
Wilma passed away on July 18, 2013 at Milford Nursing Center at 93 years old.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Bev (Arv) Schumann of Milford and Ray (Colleen) Anderson of Milford, Lois Severson of Gladstone, Mo.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, adoptive parents, in-laws (Martin and Inger Anderson), her husband, Alvin, two brothers, John Seims and Louie Seims; son-in-law, Hal Severson and granddaughter, Vicki Schumann Weaver and special friend, Bryon Hill.
Wilma's motto in life was "Do to the other person like you want done to yourself" and "there is good in all of us, just look for them and say nice things. It's very rewarding!"
