BLOOMINGTON - Elizabeth W. "Betty" Dees, 78, of Bloomington, IL, died at 2:07 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2009, at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal, IL.
Her funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 502 E. Front St., Bloomington, IL, with Rev. Vaughn Hoffman and Rev. Ken Dees, officiating. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Champaign. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Calvert and Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington and from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the church on Thursday.
Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or Home Sweet Home Mission, Bloomington.
Mrs. Dees was born July 7, 1931, at Spring Valley, IL, a daughter of Jacob Christian and Pauline Theodora Osborne Wiedrich. She lived in Depue, IL until age 7 when her family moved to Champaign, IL.
She married Rev. David P. Dees on May 26, 1956, at First Methodist Church, Champaign. They shared in the lives of three children and three grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband, Rev. David P. Dees; two children, Rebekah (Bruce) Dees-McMahon, Sheffield, IL and Paul D. (Suzy) Dees, Normal, IL; three granddaughters, Meg Anderson, Loda, IL and Kira and Haley Dees, Normal, IL; and a brother, Robert C. (Alice) Wiedrich, Decatur, IL.
Her parents and daughter, Mary Anderson, preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of Champaign Central High School and attended the University of Illinois, earning a bachelor of science in nursing. She attended the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago and received her certificate in clinical training in 1954. Betty was in nursing in several capacities, having worked in a nursing home, hospital and taught LPN and CNA courses locally at Lincoln College. She also worked at the ISU infirmary for a period of time.
Betty was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomington, and United Methodist Women and Home Sweet home Mission Auxiliary, Bloomington. She was also a former Brownie and Girl Scout leader.
She was a devoted wife mother and grandmother.
