Funeral services for Frances M. Johnson, 88, Sidney, were at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at Fulkerson Memorial Chapel, Sidney, with Pastor Alton Hillesland officiating.
Casketbearers were Alvin Wilhelm, Bennett Folstad, Michael Folstad, Matt Folstad and Bill Neiss. Honorary casketbearers were all of Frances's many friends and family.
Interment was in the Richland Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.fulkersons.com.
Frances was born on Oct. 27, 1922, in Lambert, the daughter of Charles and Sena (Julson) Widdifield. She had two older brothers, Obert and Andy. When Frances was only 4 years old, her mother died, and she was sent back to Wisconsin to live with her grandmother and aunt while her father and brothers remained in Montana to work. She grew up and attended schools in Wisconsin.
In the late 1930s, Frances moved to Sidney where she was a waitress for Jimmie Lan at the Eagle Cafe.
While out dancing at Dreamland, Frances met James "Jim" Johnson. They were united in marriage on Aug. 3, 1941, in Fairview. Following the marriage, they made their home in Seattle, Wash., where her husband, Jim, was employed by Boeing. They made their home there until her husband was discharged from the U.S. Marine Corp. While living in Sidney, they cleaned area businesses.
Her husband, Jim, died in 1993, and she remained in Sidney. She later moved into the Lincoln Apartments, then to the Crestwood Inn and later to The Lodge on Lone Tree Creek before entering the Sidney Health Center Extended Care facility in 2008.
Frances was a member of Pella Lutheran Church in Sidney. She had many hobbies, and she enjoyed crocheting and knitting. While in the Extended Care, Frances loved to play bingo. She was the Resident of the Month for January 2009.
Frances died Thursday afternoon, Dec. 30, 2010, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care facility.
Surviving her are her three daughters, Carol (Dick) Christensen, Queen Creek, Ariz., Shary Thiel, Sidney, and Joy (Bennett) Folstad, Sidney; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, and her two brothers Obert and Andy.
