U.S. Congressman. Moving to Oklahoma, with his parents in 1915 and was later employed in the office of the county clerk of Greer County, Oklahoma, (1924-26). He was court clerk of Greer County, (1926-35), served as chief clerk of the board of affairs of the State of Oklahoma, (1935-36) and engaged as a building contractor in Oklahoma City, (1937-41). In 1941, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-seventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Sam C. Massingale and reelected to the Seventy-eight and Seventy-ninth Congresses, serving until 1947. He was again elected to the Eighty-first Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving (1949-57). He was elected to the Eighty-seventh and to the Eighty-eighth Congresses, serving (1961-65). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he engaged in real estate, was a member of Oklahoma State Legislature, (1971-79) and again in 1988, serving until death.
