John was born in Everett on Oct. 2, 1929 to Henry and Winnie Wichers. John was the youngest child, with two older sisters, Kathleen and Grace.
After John's birth, the Wichers family lived in Everett for three years. They moved to Lynden for a year and a half before deciding to permanently settle in Oak Harbor in 1934.
John worked at the Columbia Valley Lumber Co. for his father until the age of 18. He spent three years in the Navy before meeting Deidre (Dee) Griffen in 1950. They were married on July 3, 1952 in Seattle. John and Dee made their home in Oak Harbor where he went back to work at Columbia Valley Lumber. John became manager of Copeland Lumber in 1966 and stayed until his retirement in 1982. John enjoyed traveling fishing, hunting, golfing and keeping an immaculate yard. John and Dee had three children, Kathleen, Deborah and David. John was a family man whose family always came first. John is survived by: his wife, Dee, of Oak Harbor; sister Grace Wichers of Oak Harbor; daughter Kathy and Patrick Passmore of Tumwater; granddaughter Cashel Passmore; daughter Debbie and Tony Fisher of Mount Vernon; grandchildren Rachel Fisher and Ryan Fisher; son David and JoAnn Wichers of Oak Harbor; grandson Chris Wichers; and grandson Daniel and Amber Wichers.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Winnie Wichers and his sister Kathleen Wichers.
